The performance of an actor need not depend upon the script completely. Great actors perform wonderfully even on botched up scripts. The idea is to understand the character rather than the script. 2016 saw some such performances by actors which left a lasting impression on the minds of the audience. Here we bring to you the list of the Best performances in acting by male actors in 2016.
Honourable Mentions: –
Amitabh Bachchan – Pink
Salman Khan – Sultan
Ranbir Kapoor – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Piyush Mishra – Pink
Jim Sarbh – Neerja
Fawad Khan – Kapoor And Sons
Arjun Rampal – Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh
5. Shahrukh Khan – Fan
Character: Gaurav Chandna / Aryan Khanna
I had a tough time in deciding whether to give this spot to Amitabh Bachchan for Pink or Shahrukh Khan for Fan and I gave to the latter on a simple fact, Shahrukh was the only saving grace for Fan. Anyone who has seen Fan knows how botched up the whole film was in terms of script as well as direction and the only thing that elevated the movie and gave it its audience was Shahrukh’s mind boggling performance. He was good as Aryan but excellent as Gaurav and the way he pulled off both the characters is commendable. An actor who acts beyond the strength of the script is a true gem and so is Shahrukh.
4. Sushant Singh Rajput – M S Dhoni: The Untold Story
Character: Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Getting into the skin of the character of Mahendra Singh Dhoni wasn’t an easy task, but not for Sushant. He has proved himself as a very versatile actor even from his TV serial days and choosing him to play the titular role of the film was a wise decision by the makers of the film. He showcases innocence as well as confidence at the same time with great perfection and it’s his acting that saves the movie from a mismanaged and messed up second half. I tell you, he is the strongest contender to win The Best Actor awards in the upcoming award season and his delectable performance justifies it.

3. Nawazuddin Siddique – Raman Raghav 2.0
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented actors and a well known method actor in this country. He allegedly lived on the streets for a few days in order to understand the character of a serial killer and even repeated the dialogues in his sleep when he was ill which shows how dedicated he was in order to execute the role of Ramanna! The immaculate combination of his talent and dedication is clearly seen in the movie where he overshadows every other person with his screen presence and top-notch performance. He is natural and so convincing in his role that you would think that the whole movie was written for him and him alone.
2. Manoj Vajpayee – Aligarh
Character: Prof. Ramchandra Siras
Manoj Vajpayee is an actor who has never disappointed us no matter what film or script he took. As a gay professor who has been expelled from AMU for his sexual orientation, Vajpayee is simply outstanding in this biopic. He manifests pain and sorrow with such insight and truthfulness that the audience itself feels his emotions and gets a startling view of Siras’ plight. Honestly, everything Aligarh is today, is because of him and he deserves accolades for it. Maybe the Critics’ Choice for Best Actor awards will be handed over to him and if they don’t, then it will be a travesty of the institution of Film Awards.
1. Aamir Khan – Dangal
Character – Mahavir Singh Phogat
If anyone argues that Aamir Khan shouldn’t have topped the list, I’ll give it to him or her because this list is about acting and I didn’t see Aamir Khan acting in Dangal; rather I saw Mahavir Singh Phogat portraying himself in the movie. This is the kind of magic this man creates on screen! He completely forgets himself and becomes the man he is portraying and hence I can’t even imagine any other actor in place of him, performing the character the way he did. Even though he never accepts awards, I wish the awards’ fraternities give him The Best Actor awards because that will regain them their lost respect and do justice to talent in this country. I wouldn’t say much praising Aamir because I simply can’t. Why! You need to see Dangal to know why!
